Dr Shola blasts Donald Trump in fiery debate over mugshot and 'witch hunt' arrest

Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu sparked a fiery debate with US political commentator Scottie Nell Hughes, as she described Donald Trump as “the biggest con artist in America’s history” for using his mugshot to his advantage.

Like millions around the globe, Dr Shola watched on as Fulton County Sheriff’s Office released the first mugshot of a president in US history.

Mr Trump had been hauled into the county jail to have his mugshot and fingerprints taken as he was charged with crimes relating to attempts made to overturn the 2020 US election.

He joined many of the other accused in having their mugshots widely shared across social media, with supporters and critics quick to wade in with their opinions on the alleged activity.

Dr Shola condemned Mr Trump and chastised him for managing to spin the fact he was facing criminal charges to his own advantage.

Dr Shola continued: “There’s a big difference between Trump and Stacey Abrams. Stacey Abrams went through the court process, and once she went through the court process and lost, she conceded.

“Donald Trump put out fifty meritless lawsuits and lost every single one he’s a liar.”

Ms Abrams, a member of the Democratic Party, helped Joe Biden clinch victory in the hotly contested Georgia seat. But in 2018, after narrowly losing the Georgia gubernatorial election to Republican rival Brian Kemp, launched accusations of voter suppression. Eventually, she conceded defeat.

Dr Shola then mockingly imitated Ms Hughes, clarifying that the US is not a democracy but a republic, before adding: “[America] cannot boast of having a democracy if it has a former president it fails to prosecute for undermining that democracy.”

Mr Trump’s mugshot was released in the early hours of Friday, and astonishingly was shared by the former president on his X account – the first time he had posted on the platform formerly known as Twitter since January 2021.

In the aftermath of his booking in Georgia, Mr Trump spoke to Fox News Digital, telling the outlet of his experience.

He said: “I came in, I was treated very nicely. But it is what it is.

“I took a mugshot. I had never heard the word mugshot. They didn’t teach me that at the Wharton School of Finance.”
