A policeman has been rushed to hospital after being cut free from his car after a Birmingham city centre smash.
The police officer’s vehicle was involved in a crash with an Uber driver and was rushed to hospital this morning after being freed from wreckage.
The smash happened on the A4400 St Chads Queensway in Birmingham city centre.
Another officer who was in the police car suffered minor injuries. The taxi driver, and a passenger, were uninjured, reports BirminghamLive.
West Midlands Police released a statement on social media platform X earlier today.
It read: “St Chads Queensway is currently closed at Snow Hill Queensway after a collision involving a police vehicle and a taxi.
“An officer driving the police car which was responding to an incident, had to be cut out of the vehicle and has been taken to hospital.
“Another officer in the vehicle received minor injuries.
“The taxi driver and a passenger, thankfully were uninjured.”
Steven, who overlooked the scene from a treadmill at PureGym, told BirminghamLive: “I saw all this happening from out the window. It’s really bad; shocking. Just hope everyone involved is okay”
Police swarmed to the scene of the accident which had to be closed to traffic.
The entire upper half of the West Midlands Police car looks to have been cut off – with doors, windscreen and roof all missing.
This morning there was a large police presence around the damaged car and police tape has been placed across roads.
Other police vehicles have been pictured at the scene alongside police officers.
Buses have been diverted around the scene on what is one of the city’s busiest Christmas shopping days.
The location of the incident is just a stone’s throw away the police’s Lloyd House headquarters.
