Commuter trains thrown into chaos after signalling fault brings network to grinding halt

Monday morning commutes have been thrown into chaos already today, after two major rail companies warned of a signalling issue leading to cancellations.

Southern and Thameslink, who operate services into and out of London, warned that the issue would cause major problems this morning and urged commuters not to travel.

Southern wrote: “Due to a major signalling fault across the whole Southern Network, no trains will be running until further notice.

“DO NOT travel on any Southern route until further notice.”

It added: “We are currently monitoring the situation and will provide updates as soon as possible.

“If you are currently travelling, please listen to on-board or station announcements.

“If you are not yet travelling, please do not attempt to travel until further notice.”

Thameslink said people should allow an extra 30 minutes to their journey if their route has been hit by the chaos – which they can check using their live map.
