Prince Harry thrown US visa lifeline as Nancy Pelosi blasts 'sick' deportation threat

Top Democrat politician Nancy Pelosi has defended Prince Harry as she told the Daily Express that Donald Trump is a “sick person” for suggesting the Duke could be deported from the US.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives made the comments at Oxford University on Thursday after taking part in a debate at the Oxford Union.

Speaking to the Daily Express following the event, Ms Pelosi was asked for her thoughts on Trump’s suggestion Harry could be deported.

She said: “This is a very sick person, why would he even suggest such a thing? He doesn’t even have the power to do it.

“He is not going to be President so let’s not worry about it. He will antagonise, we will organise to make sure that isn’t a possibility.”

Ms Pelosi’s intervention comes after Trump told the Daily Express US in February that he “will not protect” Harry like President Joe Biden.

Trump said: “I wouldn’t protect him. He betrayed the Queen. That’s unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me.”

Harry’s US visa application is the subject of a legal battle after a conservative think tank – The Heritage Foundation – claimed that the Duke’s admission of drug use in his memoir Spare suggests he may have lied on his application.

The foundation launched a lawsuit against the US Department of Homeland Security demanding that Harry’s documents be made public.

Earlier this month, Harry confirmed he is now a US resident, further cementing his commitment to a life in the States rather than making a shock return to the UK.

Ms Pelosi – one of the most influential Democrats in Washington – also told the Daily Express that she believes Trump must not win the election for the sake of American democracy.

She said: “Trump has to lose the election, democracy is on the ballot. He is a threat to democracy and a threat to our allegiance to NATO.”

The former Speaker had debated the statement ‘This House Believes Populism is a Threat to Democracy’ during her appearance at the Oxford Union.

Earlier in the day, her speech was disrupted when pro-Palestine protestors stood in front of her podium holding a Palestinian flag aloft. They were later escorted out of the chamber by police.
