Christian Brueckner LIVE: First look at Madeleine McCann suspect in unrelated rape trial

Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner has been pictured for the first time in years as he stands trial accused of a string of offences against women and children. The 47-year-old has appeared in a German court this morning.

Brueckner was pictured pulling up in prison van outside the courtroom in Brunswick, Lower Saxony. He stands accused of three rapes and two indecent assaults in cases relating to five women and girls aged between 10 and 80 years old. His lawyer, Friedrich Fulscher, previously told the Mail Online that he was looking for a “full acquittal” in the trial.

Brueckner is also named as a suspect in the 2007 disappearance of British girl Madeleine McCann. He has not been charged in relation to the case, and the current trial has “nothing to do” with the Madeleine.

The trial is expected to last until June, with authorities drawing up water-tight security measures. Armed police will be stationed inside and outside the court, with Brueckner moved from his high-security prison for the length of the trial.

Brueckner denies the charges against him and denies any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance
