Chelsea star Thiago Silva 'holds talks' with Fluminense as Pochettino plan takes shape

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has reportedly held talks over a return to Brazil with Copa Libertadores winners Fluminense as Mauricio Pochettino plans ahead for the future. The Blues veteran is into the final year of his contract after signing an extension in the summer for another year, but it is looking increasingly likely that centre-back will be leaving Stamford Bridge.

The evergreen 39-year-old has been ever-present for the Blues in the Premier League this season under Pochettino, playing a key role as one of only a few older players in the youthful squad.

But the veteran has shown some signs of decline and the arrival of centre-backs Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile has put his long-term future under threat, with the emergence of Levi Colwill further complicating his position.

Silva’s current deal is due to expire in June 2024 and he has already indicated this season could be his last in west London, with reports now suggesting he has held talks with Fluminense over a move back to his native Brazil.
