Chelsea star named 'flop of the season' over disappointing Man Utd duo

Former Scotland striker Ally McCoist has named Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo as his ‘flop of the season’. The Ecuador international was signed as part of the Blues’ major spending spree over the summer but has struggled to make the impact that many anticipated.

Chelsea splashed the cash over the summer to take Todd Boehly’s total spending on new signings over the £1billion mark, but he has very little to show for the investment so far. The Blues are currently 10th in the Premier League and will need to improve markedly to break into the European places.

Several of Chelsea’s summer signings are yet to find their rhythm at Stamford Bridge, and McCoist believes that Caicedo is one of those underperforming following his £115million move from Brighton. Although Manchester United duo Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund have also struggled, the ex-Rangers star believes that Caicedo is the ‘flop’ of the campaign so far.

He told talkSPORT BET: “Andre Onana has been nothing like the signing everyone thought he would be for Manchester United, but I’m not giving him ‘flop of the season so far’, I think that’s ever so slightly harsh.

“But Moises Caicedo, I saw him a couple of times, particularly at Old Trafford with Enzo Fernandez in the middle of the park, and both of them were, for a quarter of a billion pounds, not great… Caicedo would certainly get my vote over Onana.

“Rasmus Hojlund? No chance – Caicedo and Onana would get it ahead of him. I know Hojlund hasn’t been scoring as regularly, particularly domestically, as Man United fans would want, but there’s a willingness there, there’s an eagerness there, a desire, which a lot of the United fans, the majority if not all of them, can see. I’m settling on Moises Caicedo!”
