Channel 4 news blunder as they accidentally air footage of ‘House of Commons’ – in Canada

Channel 4 news used a picture of the House of Commons in one of its reports on UK politics – but it was of a parliament in an entirely different country. Social media users have taken to X – formerly known as Twitter – to highlight the gaffe that took place during coverage relating to MP Lee Anderson.

The broadcast shows a Channel 4 news presenter talking about Lee Anderson’s comments that have seen him suspended from the Conservative Party saying that there was “pressure” Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The presenter then talks about reactions from his fellow Tory MPs. She says: “Very few Tory MPs have condemned Lee Anderson’s comments. And the two most high profile people to have called him out Sajid Javid and Nusrat Ghani are both Muslim.”

But while the presenter is reporting the footage on screen pans to a House of Commons – but unfortunately it’s not in the UK. The clip instead shows a picture of the Canadian House of Commons.

It’s caused hilarity on social media platform X – formerly known as Twitter – with one user posting the clip and saying: “someone working for channel 4 news doesn’t know what their house of commons looks like”.

The clip has been seen 21,000 times on the platform. Other X users were quick to comment on the gaffe. One said: “don’t they check these things that’s so embarrassing”.

“The average british 12 year old could do better than that. who are they hiring?” said another. One even claims that the room they showed of the Canadian Parliament isn’t currently in use.

They said: “This room is currently not even being used by the Canadian House of Commons rn” Express.co.uk has approached Channel 4 for comment.
