Brendan Rodgers brands female reporter 'good girl' as he storms out of Celtic interview

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has come under fire for saying “good girl” to BBC Radio Scotland reporter Jane Lewis after ending a post-match interview prematurely. Rodgers refused to open up on comments he made in which he referred to a predetermined narrative being written about his side and subsequently stormed out of the interview.

The Hoops needed two stoppage-time goals to overcome Motherwell on Sunday. Blair Spittal put Motherwell ahead in the first half, before half-time substitute Adam Idah scored six minutes into the second half.

Idah struck again in the 94th minute before Luis Palma scored in the 96th. The victory ensured Celtic remained only two points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers.

Rodgers has grown frustrated over what he deems is a ‘story’ being pre-written about his team’s resolve in the title race. The former Liverpool and Leicester head coach bluntly told Lewis that Celtic will “write our own story”.

However, he refused to expand on what he meant and ended the interview. “There’s a story being written about this group, but we’ll write our own story,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers was asked to unpack what he meant but repeat “no, no, no…” before insisting: “You know exactly what I mean.”

“I’m actually not sure exactly what you mean,” Lewis responded. “Can you tell us? People might be interested to know. You’re the one that’s bringing it up so…”

Rodgers did not allow Lewis to finish her question and could be heard handing back the microphone. He then declares the interview “done”, before saying “good girl” in comments that some have deemed condescending.

“Okay? Done,” he says. “Well done, good girl. Cheers.”

The remark was made even more bizarre by the fact that the 51-year-old had begun the interview in a chirpy mood. He said: “There’s absolutely no doubt [the squad are capable], the key thing for us is to stay together, there’s still a long way out.
