Many ticket holders took to social media to voice their anger, with some already en route to the venue by the time the decision was made.
After recent injury struggles, both players instead chose to hold back for the Grand Slam tournament, which gets underway on Sunday. Qualifying matches remain ongoing though, with the main draw taking place on Thursday.
