Archie and Lilibet, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s two children, may be key to the Sussexes reuniting with the Royal Family, according to royal author Andrew Lownie.
The furore around whether or not Harry and Meghan would attend King Charles III’s Coronation next month dominated royal discussion until their plans were laid bare last week.
It emerged that Harry would represent the Sussex household solo, with Meghan opting to stay at home in the US to be alongside Archie and Lilibet.
On the day of the Coronation itself, Archie will be celebrating his fourth birthday, a landmark many believed influenced Meghan into staying in California with her son as opposed to travelling across the Atlantic for the weekend of festivities.
The decision was seen as the latest in a line of frailties in the bond between the Sussexes and the Royal Family, cracks which first emerged after Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, left Britain to live in the US three years ago.

Their decision, described as Megxit, saw the couple remove themselves from public duty, though both have sparingly appeared for events in the UK, such as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and funeral last year.
And for Lownie, who penned the 2021 book Traitor King: The Scandalous Exile of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, the couple’s children could be key in building bridges between the two households.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Lownie said: “The children could be part of any rapprochement and the door is open to them and one day it may happen.”
Last week, Harry confirmed he would appear at the Coronation, with Buckingham Palace “delighted” to announce his intentions to witness the historic moment his father Charles, 74, is officially crowned.
But how long Harry will actually spend in Britain as part of the celebrations has been up for debate.
Finding Freedom author Omid Scobie claimed it would be a “fairly quick trip to the UK” as he would “only be attending the Coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey”.
The ceremony itself takes place on May 6 and afterwards there is set to be a huge concert, with the likes of Katy Perry, Take That and Lionel Richie all performing.
The show will take place at Windsor Castle the day after the Coronation on May 7, but Harry will instead reportedly fly back to the US to be with Meghan, Archie and Lilibet.
A source close to Harry, the Mirror reported, said the Duke of Sussex had no intention of visiting any organisations he supports while in the UK.
They said: “After much back and forth, Harry said that he would be returning for the King’s Coronation but it will only be a fleeting visit.
“Organisers have been told Harry won’t be attending the concert with the rest of the Royal Family, which is a great shame as it will be such a spectacular event.”
Billions are expected to tune in to the Coronation, which will see King Charles III crowned monarch of Britain and the Commonwealth.
