Americans turn on 'scandalous' Meghan Markle and Prince Harry: 'Not going to work out'

Americans are changing their tune on the Sussexes after Prince Harry officially changed his residence to the United States.

The pair sought refuge in California in 2020 after announcing they were stepping back from royal duties.

The prince stressed that the UK will always be “home,” but new records show he now considers himself a full-time US resident.

“I don’t think it will work out as they think it will,” said New York bagel shop manager Don Johnson in an interview with Daily Express US.

“They’re already getting a lot of scandal for being the way they are: They want privacy, but they want to do world tours all around and book signings, but they don’t want anyone to bother them. Here in America, it’s different from the UK, they’re not gonna get the privacy they think they’re gonna get.”

The US has usually been more sympathetic to the glamorous couple than the UK, with approval ratings bearing that out.

But that may be changing as the couple continues to ply their wares on the back of their royal fame.

“I feel like the empire is falling, so why not detach yourself before it crashes?” beauty entrepreneur Ramiya Catten told Daily Express US.

Most Americans that spoke with Daily Express US feel that Harry should face consequences if it’s revealed that he lied on his visa application about his drug use, which he wrote about openly in his best-selling memoir “Spare.”

“I don’t think he should be above the law. I think he should be accountable for what he did if he did it,” Johnson said.

Some pointed to the cumbersome US immigration process, one that the Sussexes seem to have an easier time navigating than many others.

“The waiting period to become a resident in the US, to become part of the US, is very long, so it’s unfair he gets to do it that quick,” said product marketer Anna Maszera, who added that she does not have a “great opinion” of the couple.

Even tourists spotted around New York Thursday morning felt that Harry has had an unfair advantage.

“That’s wrong. He lied. He had the privilege to become a US citizen. I think it’s bad if he lied,” said Linda, who was visiting from France.

Ruth, on holiday from England, was just as blunt: “It would be the same for any of us if you’re not truthful. It’s very difficult to get residence in America, so why would he be any different?
