Alexei Navalny's wife casts doubt on death and blasts 'they are lying constantly'

Alexei Navalny’s wife has spoken out about her husband’s alleged death, casting doubt on the reliability of the report.

Yulia Navalny appeared at the Munich Security Conference in Germany.

It was there that she and her husband’s staff got the news that the 47-year-old Russian opposition leader died after taking a walk in his Siberian prison.

“They are lying constantly,” she cautioned, adding that if the news is indeed true, “they will be brought ot justice, and this day will come soon.”

At the same conference, Vice President Kamala Harris said Navalny’s death would be a “further sign of Putin’s brutality”.

Harris added: “Whatever story they tell, let us be clear: Russia is responsible, and we’ll have more to say on this later.”

Yulia got a standing ovation from the world leaders and security experts gathered at the meeting, according to video of her speech.

She was there with her husband’s longtime chief of staff Leonid Volkov, who has also cast doubt on Russian authorities’ claims.

“We have no reason to believe state propaganda,” said Navalny’s longtime chief of staff Leonid Volkov in a post on X. “If this is true, then not ‘Navalny died,’ but ‘Putin killed Navalny’ and only that. But I don’t trust them one penny.”

Navalny has been imprisoned by Russia since 2021.

The former lawyer and anti-corruption activist was a harsh critic of President Vladimir Putin who ran for president in 2018, a campaign that saw significant interference by Russian police and state agencies.

He was poisoned with a Soviet-era nerve agent back in 2020. He was airlifted to Germany for treatment, and has been incarcerated in Russia since his return on January 2021 on charges that continued to mount into 2023.

Putin has always denied the poisoning.

Navalny had long complained of horrid conditions in Russia’s prisons, including inadequate medical care and excessive solitary confinement.
