Abdul Ezedi: Police issue major update in search for chemical attack suspect

In a major update from police, armed officers raided two addresses in Newcastle associated with the suspected London chemical attacker Abdul Ezedi – including his place of work – in the early hours of this morning (February 8).

Ezedi, 35, is wanted for attempted murder after a mother and her two children were injured by a corrosive liquid. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that armed police had raided the addresses this morning.

No arrests have been made. The woman, 31, who was attacked in Clapham on January 31 is still sedated and unable to speak to detectives.

A statement from friends read: “Her children are her life. She is generous to a fault and a wonderful cook and host. All she has ever wanted is a safe home for her and her beautiful, kind little girls.”

They thanked the “angels” who intervened on Lessar Avenue and sustained injuries as they tackled her attacker.

Ezedi has been on the run for eight days, having last been seen in London as he exited Tower Hill Underground station and head towards Grovesnor Road.

The Met Police shared CCTV images that showed Ezedi with a “melted eye” following the attack. It has been confirmed that the victim was known to the attacker, with Commander Jon Savell saying the breakdown of a relationship between them could have been a motive for the attack.

He fled the scene in Clapham, at first using his bank card to travel around on the Tube network, and then walking a route that appeared to hug the banks of the River Thames.

Police said there is no evidence yet to suggest that he jumped in the river. It’s thought Ezedi could have travelled back to Newcastle where he is from.
