Zara's husband Mike Tindall opens up about losing their unborn babies for first time

Mike Tindall has spoken about the devastating ordeal for he and his wife, Zara, had to go through after suffering miscarriages.

The couple have three children Mia, nine, Lena, five and Lucas, two but the daughter of Princess Anne has also suffered the loss of two babies after her elder daughter was born.

Talking about Zara’s first miscarriage to the Times, he said: “It’s a terrible journey for mothers as they look at themselves like it’s their fault.”

The King’s niece’s husband added how suffering a miscarriage is “difficult when you first go through it and being as late as it was – five months”.

The couple welcomed their eldest daughter, Mia, in 2014 but in December 2016, they revealed a pregnancy announced the previous month had ended in a miscarriage.

Mike said: “We had to go out there and tell everyone we had lost a baby… The life we lead means we had to announce it publicly.

“It’s a terrible journey for mothers; they look at themselves like it’s their fault.”

The 44-year-old went on to say that the “best thing” for him and Zara was that it wasn’t their first child.

He added: “To get home from the hospital and Mia is there with a smile on her face, you put all your love into her.

“If we’d have gone home to an empty house, that would have been a completely different scenario.”
