You've got eyes like a hawk if you can spot the elves in under 10 seconds

Before you’ve had too much Christmas sherry try and solve this brainteaser which is hiding not one, but three naughty Christmas elves.

Somewhere in this image the mythical creatures are causing some mayhem but because they are so small they might get away without being seen.

It’s worth noting elves, which have their origins in Germanic and Scandinavian folklore, are famously good at hiding but also like to try and help Santa when he is delivering presents.

They might also like to help decorate the tree, or perhaps pour Father Christmas a drink.

If you haven’t spotted the elves immediately never fear, according to BonusFinder UK more than two in three people attempting this puzzle threw in the towel before being given the solution.

Finding that elusive third elf is tricky but keep in mind they like to stay hidden rather than branch out into the open.

If you do complete the puzzle you will be joining just a third of people who took an average of 3.25 minutes to complete the task.

And there you have it, three elves around the image can be seen circled in blue. Did you spot them all?

Christmas elf legends date back to pre-Christian pagan times in northern Europe but like many pagan traditions they have found their way into the Christian story.

The creatures are usually depicted as wearing red or green and they have large pointy ears and pointy hats. They are usually much smaller than humans, sometimes measuring just a few inches in height.

Author Louisa May Alcott first introduced Christmas elves into American literature in 1856, and they have gone on to be regularly depicted in cartoons and movies, including the iconic Will Ferrel film Elf.
