Young girl ‘critical’ after three people struck by car on sidewalk at Sea-Tac Airport

A young girl is in critical condition in hospital and two other people have serious injuries after being struck by car at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Reports say that a vehicle accelerated onto the sidewalk in the departures drive at the airport and collided with the trio.

The child, who is under the age of five, was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where her condition is said to be “critical”.

The two other people were both taken to area hospitals with serious injuries, according to the Port of Seattle.

Their condition was not reported by Wednesday evening (May 17).

The Seattle Times reported the airport as saying that the incident on the upper departures drive appeared to be “an unintentional act”.

Airport spokesperson Perry Cooper said that a vehicle accelerated onto the sidewalk and struck the three people.

The driver was cooperating with police and no arrests have been made, Cooper added.

The departures drive was closed after the crash but reopened shortly after 5pm.

All doors to the terminal were open, although a small part of the sidewalk with debris remained closed.

The airport said that it was providing one hour of free parking temporarily for a few hours to assist customers with passenger drop off and pickup following the closures. It suggested that travellers use alternative routes to the airport like the Link light rail.

The Port of Seattle Police has asked anyone who witnessed the crash to contact 206-787-5401.
