World Darts Championship star invited to Wimbledon after tennis ace steals his nickname

“I love watching the darts this time of year and then getting on the darts board every now and again. It’s like Wimbledon tennis, everyone’s playing tennis around Wimbledon.” Ahead of UTS, Draper also admitted that this wasn’t the first time he was stealing Taylor’s nickname as he has also adopted the label on the British Davis Cup team.

Explaining why he decided to compete as ‘The Power’, the 21-year-old previously said: “Me and my brother always watched a lot of darts and we watched Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor obviously. I put it online to see what people thought my nickname would be there were a few suggestions.

“I think ‘The Power’ fits with the way I play because I play quite powerfully, so I thought it would be a good name for me for this competition and maybe it sticks with me, maybe it doesn’t. Actually we play a lot of darts at Davis Cup, it’s kind of our thing in the Great Britain team, and I was called ‘The Power’ there as well so maybe it’s catching on.” While Draper won’t be heading down to Ally Pally this year – claiming it would “get messy” – Taylor could be at Wimbledon next summer to watch him in action.
