World Darts Championship major blunder as MC calls player by wrong name in awkward walk-on

Keegan Brown was preparing to enter Alexandra Palace for his first-round clash with Boris Krcmar on Tuesday, when he was left stranded as the World Darts Championship MC called him by his opponent’s name as he was about to make his walk-on. Brown exited the tournament in a 3-2 defeat but may have felt that it was a bad omen when his entrance turned awkward.

MC John McDonald was revving the Ally Pally crowd up for the third match of the afternoon session and went to introduce the players, but with the cameras panned on Brown and him ready to make his way to the oche, Krcmar’s name was called instead.

Keegan’s face quickly turned from excitement at his first match of the tournament to bewilderment, as he looked around the crowd to explain the situation, before asking the security guard next to him if he heard the same error.

However, the Brit was more than happy to proceed and once ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ by Queen was blaring around the arena he willingly made an entrance, even though it was his opponent who was mistakenly announced first.

Not everyone inside Ally Pally were prepared to take the mistake so well, as boos and jeers could be heard during the excruciatingly awkward pause before Brown walked up to the stage.

Once Brown had gotten to the oche where MC McDonald was standing, he was in kind spirits and had a quick word for the man who acknowledged the error, before the player thanked the fans and attempted to raise the atmosphere.

Despite being introduced as his Croatian World Cup star opponent, Brown started strong on the doubles and took the first set despite averaging 20 fewer points than Krcmar.

However, Krcmar bounced back to sail through the second set with a 3-0 victory, before a few strong legs saw him take the third to edge closer towards a second-round tie with Dirk van Duijvenbode.

Brown tied the match in the fourth set with a 12-darter, but Krcmar pinned a 108 finish to go out on D18 and take the win in style, as Brown was not able to bounce back from the error on his walk-out and got knocked out of the championship.
