A woman was shocked to find a man sleeping surrounded by empty bottles, cans and rubbish as she viewed rental homes. Kaite Elliot was viewing homes for her and her friend when she came across the aftermath of a party in one of the properties. But that wasn’t all, as Ms Elliot continued viewing the house in Newcastle with the “embarrassed” estate agent, the rest of the home was “just as bad”.
Ms Elliot was filming the home tour to show her friend but after the strange experience, shared it on TikTok.
Footage showed a man asleep on the sofa half covered by a duvet and surrounded by empty beer and vodka bottles as well as rubbish littered on the floor.
Katie said the letting agent had warned her the property was “extremely dirty” and “that they were really struggling with it”.
The 24-year-old added: “I didn’t expect it to be that bad. You could tell she was embarrassed and she was talking about how ridiculous it was.
“The guy on the sofa didn’t even notice us, I think he was just fast asleep to be honest.
“However, it was 12pm so it wasn’t even that early in the day.”
The rest of the home didn’t look much more promising as Katie added: “It just me who viewed it but the rest of the house was just as bad too.
“There was a guy in one of the bedrooms that was arguing with the woman about the mess not being his as he’s not there that often as well.”
Katie and her friends opted against the house and thought the people living their could have been students from either Northumbria or Newcastle University.
Katie added: “It might have been okay once all cleaned up but two of the rooms were tiny so it didn’t suit us.
“The letting agent just kept saying I can only ask you to try and look past the mess.
“I’m not definitely sure as my friend booked the viewing but I think it was students living there then.
Since Katie shared the footage on social media it has racked up over one million and almost 80,000 likes and more than 900 comments.
Many saw the funny side of the footage with one user commenting: “No way this is real, why is someone on the couch still”.
Another said: “There is no way people live like this.”
And a third commented: “That’s got to be student accommodation.”
