A woman living next to new neighbours was left scratching her head due to one bizarre habit.
While they have a washing line, they’ve also taken to hanging their laundry on the shared fence, causing it to spill onto her property.
The neighbours use their own line for the most part – but have apparently decided that the fence is free space for any excess clothing, leaving the mum more than a little frustrated.
She has even been contemplating a “harsh” solution.
The woman took to Mumsnet to share her frustration, saying: “Newish neighbours I’ve never spoken to except for a quick hello have started hanging their washing over our shared fence.
“It’s bothering me – Do I say anything?
“My habitual pettiness is telling me to chuck the lot back over their side though I recognize that would be harsh.”
She even went over to their house to discuss the matter, but to no avail.
“Bit the bullet and knocked on the door 10 minutes ago,” she said.
“The lady’s English wasn’t great but she nodded and smiled. Washing is still there…”
A variety of suggestions came in from the people of Mumsnet, ranging from passive aggressive to just plain aggressive.
Some said she should talk to them, while others thought she should just move the laundry back.
One person said: “I would ask them to stop.
“Then if they don’t, push it back over. Every single time. They’ll eventually stop when their clean washing ends up getting dirty on the ground again.”
Another commenter pointed out the strangeness of her neighbours’ actions.
They said: “The fact it’s there wouldn’t bother me but who hangs their clean stuff over a dirty fence to dry? That’s just madness.”
