Woman dies after falling out of white van on 40mph road as police launch urgent appeal

A young woman has died after falling from a moving van in Yorkshire.

Leah Senior, 27, was travelling in a white Ford Transit van at 40mph in Wakefield on Wednesday morning. She fell out of the car while it was still moving at speed, landing on the Calder Grove road. Emergency services were called.

Paramedics attended the scene but despite emergency treatment, she died of her injuries at the scene in Denby Dale Road. The male driver of the van, 25, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug driving offences.

The man, from Kirklees, was released on bail pending further enquiries.

A police forensic tent was seen erected on the 40mph road, which was temporarily closed to traffic.

One woman told local media: “I saw police put up a tent and knew it was a fatality. It’s disgusting. I don’t know what’s coming to the world. It’s really horrible to think about.”

West Yorkshire Police shared a picture of Ms Senior today as part of an appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage of the incident, which took place between 8.20pm and 8.45pm near to the junction with Hollin Lane.

Detective Superintendent Marc Bowes of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “We are continuing to conduct extensive enquiries into this incident in which a woman has lost her life.

“Anyone who can assist enquiries is asked to contact police on 101 referencing log 1604 of January 17.”
