Woman charged with manslaughter after girl, 11, dies at block of flats

A woman has been charged manslaughter after the death of an 11-year old girl in east London. Jesmin Akter, 33, of Sutton Street, Shadwell, was charged on Friday with manslaughter and importing a regulated substance, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The charges come after Fatiha Sabrin was found unresponsive at a block of flats on December 11, 2021.

She was taken to a hospital in east London where she died later the same day.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said in a statement: “Fatiha’s family have been informed of this development and they continue [to be supported] by family liaison officers.”

They added that Ms Akter has the right to a fair trial, continuing: “It is extremely important there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice proceedings.”
