Woman, 39, falls to her death seconds after getting engaged in clifftop tragedy

Tragedy hit a couple as a woman slipped and fell to her death just seconds after getting engaged to her boyfriend.

Yesim Demir, 39, fell 100ft to her death after falling from a clifftop just moments after celebrating her engagement to boyfriend Nizamettin Gursu.

The pair were at Polente Cape, Turkey, when the incident happened on July 6.

Mr Gursu had just proposed to Ms Demir when the pair went over to the cliff to watch the sunset and celebrate.

Just seconds after they arrived, Ms Demir fell around 104ft (32 metres) onto the ground below.

While Ms Demir reportedly survived the fall, she sadly died 45 minutes later after resuscitation efforts by paramedics failed.

When she fell, Mr Gursu was on his way back to their car to find supplies for their picnic when he heard his fiancée scream as she went over the edge.

Speaking to local media, Mr Gursu said: “We chose to have a romantic memory after the proposal.

“We drank some alcohol. Everything happened at once. She lost her balance and fell down.”

Following the incident, local authorities closed down the local area and opened an investigation.

According to reports, access to the cliff was only permitted “in a controlled manner” 10 days later on July 16.

Speaking to local media, one of Ms Demir’s friends said: “This is a place where everyone comes and watches the sunset.

“However, the roads are very bad and there is no precaution on the edge of the cliff.”

The friend added: “A fence should be drawn here, precautions should be taken.”
