William 'wanted' Kate because of her 'warm solid background', palace insider claims

Prince William was attracted to Princess Kate’s “warm, solid background”, a palace insider claims.

The insight into William and Kate’s relationship dynamic comes courtesy of royal author Tom Quinn.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Express US, Quinn, author of Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family, shared the private conversations he had with palace insiders.

They claim Kate’s “key” appeal to William is her starkly different upbringing.

Quinn explained: “Someone who worked for them said to me: ‘You’ve got to remember that William wanted Kate because she has the sort of solid, warm family background that he didn’t have.'”

The source did not elaborate but Kate certainly had a different upbringing to William.

Kate had the benefit of being raised by two loving parents, whereas William and his brother Harry were robbed of a conventional family dynamic from an early age.

Their mother, Princess Diana, who divorced their father King Charles (then Prince of Wales) in 1996, died in a Paris car crash a year later as she was pursued by paparazzi.

Amid all this upheaval, Kate was a “calm presence” in William’s life, Quinn opines.

Kate’s orderly upbringing also made her a natural fit for the Firm, he suggests.

“In a sense, the fact that the Royal Family is unchanging and has a strict set of rules reflects on a different scale the boundaries that she had as a child,” Quinn said.

He explained: “When she left university, she went straight to work for her parents. She doesn’t want to strike out and do her own thing.”

According to the royal author, Kate understands the Queen’s mantra of “never complain, never explain” and it has served her well.

“Because William adopts the manners and ways of behaving of his grandmother and Kate is very good at not complaining, both of them have stuck to the thing that made Queen Elizabeth II such a remarkable monarch,” Quinn explained.

He continued: “They very rarely complain and when they do it’s always in measured terms.”

By keeping their affairs private, William and Kate have also attracted less “scrutiny” than Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the royal author suggested.

“They are less picked apart than Harry and Meghan,” he said.
