Why Prince Harry won't be at Duke of Westminster's wedding

Prince Harry is said to have declined an invite to the Duke of Westminster’s wedding later this year.

Hugh Grosvenor, who is the seventh Duke of Westminster, is set to tie the knot with Olivia Henson in June.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly declined their invitation to the wedding due to “awkwardness” between them and the Royal Family.

It is thought that Harry did receive a “save the date” but felt that it would be “too awkward” to attend – especially as other royals are likely to be in attendance.

Prince William, who is also known to be close to the Duke of Westminster, is set to make an appearance.

The Princess of Wales, King Charles and Queen Camilla are also expected to attend.

Royal fans are surprised with Harry’s decision as Hugh, as well as being Prince George’s godfather, is also Prince Archie’s godfather.

Despite speculation that such British royals could be in attendance, the official guest list has not been revealed.

A friend of Harry and William recently told The Times: “It’s incredibly sad it has come to this.

“Hugh is one of very few close friends of William and Harry’s who has maintained strong bonds and a line of communication with both.

“He wishes they could put their heads together and patch things up, but realises it’s unlikely to happen before the wedding.

“He wanted to avoid anything overshadowing the day, especially for Olivia, and doesn’t want any awkwardness.”

A spokesperson for the Duke of Westminster recently told The Times: “We are not in a position to comment on the guest list.”

The Duke of Westminster and Olivia announced their engagement in April 2023 after two years of dating.

At the time, the family said in a statement: “The Duke of Westminster and Miss Olivia Henson are delighted to announce they are engaged to be married.

“The couple, who have been together for two years, recently became engaged at the Duke’s family home at Eaton Hall in Cheshire. Members of both their families are absolutely delighted with the news.”
