Who is Trevor Engelson? What Meghan Markle's ex-husband does now and who he's married to

Meghan Markle became a household name around the world on May 19, 2018 when she married Prince Harry in a lavish royal wedding at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

Although life as a royal may have been new to her, it was not her first time walking down the aisle, as she had previously married American film producer Trevor Engelson seven years earlier, in 2011.

Just two years later they were separated and their divorce finally came through in 2014, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the breakdown.

Meghan then met Prince Harry in London in 2016, although according to reports she is “petrified” that Trevor might decide to write a memoir that could expose the secrets of their time together.

Here Express.co.uk looks at where Trevor is now and how his relationship with Meghan played out before she found fame.

Who is Trevor Engelson?

Trevor Engelson was born on October 23, 1976, making him five years older than Meghan, and is originally from New York, before he relocated to California to study.

Meghan herself was a Los Angeles resident, with their close proximity to the film and entertainment industry supposedly leading to their meeting in the early 2000s, and they began dating in 2004.

Trevor is a talent manager and film producer and founded his own production company Underground in 2001.

Some of his most famous credits as a producer include the TV series Snowfall and the films Remember Me, License to Wed and All About Steve.

His relationship with Meghan

After meeting in 2004, when the now-Duchess was just 23, Trevor and Meghan dated for seven years before marrying at the Jamaica Inn at Ocho Rios, Jamaica on August 16, 2011.

The relationship seemed to deteriorate quickly after Meghan hit the big time, when she was cast as Rachel Zane in the hit legal drama Suits around the time she was first married.

She spent much of the year filming in Toronto while Trevor remained working in Los Angeles, and it is thought this time apart contributed to their decision to file for divorce.

It seems as if the marriage ended fairly amicably, as Meghan filed for a no-fault divorce and even reportedly posted her engagement and wedding rings back to him.

Where is he now?

Just a year after marrying, Harry and Meghan welcomed their son Prince Archie on May 6 2019, with his little sister Princess Lilibet born on June 4, 2021.

Trevor, too, has moved on with a new family, as after dating Bethenny Frankel from The Real Housewives of New York City for a time he became engaged to dietician and heiress Tracey Kurland, weeks after his ex-wife’s second wedding.

Trevor and Tracey tied the knot on May 11, 2019 in California and had their first daughter in August 2020, with a second baby girl following in 2021.

Book plans

Although nothing has been confirmed, a royal expert has suggested that Meghan could be concerned if Trevor ever writes a book detailing their relationship.

Royal author Neil Sean, who has penned The A to Z of Harry and Meghan, told OK! magazine: “Many agents have offered him big deals and big money when Meghan was at the height of her fame. I would think that he will take stock and look at all options.

“Meghan is bound to be petrified. He would truly have a remarkable story because after all, he would have first-hand experience of what it was like to be married the first time around to the actress.

“I have met him briefly and he strikes me as a nice, caring man who clearly has moved on. However, there is no escape from his story.”
