Who is Prince George's billionaire godfather – the richest person under 35 in Britain

The billionaire is also very good friends with George’s parents, Prince William and Princess Kate.

But who exactly is Hugh Grosvenor? Express.co.uk takes a look.

Hugh Richard Louis Grosvenor is the 7th Duke of Westminster and was born on January 29, 1991, in London.

His parents are the late Gerald Grosvenor, 6th Duke of Westminster and his wife Natalia and he is their third child and only son.

The duke was raised at Eaton Hall in Cheshire, the Grosvenor family seat with his three sisters, Lady Tamara, Lady Edwina, and Lady Viola.

Hugh has links to the Russian Imperial House of Romanov through his mother, specifically from Nicholas I of Russia, and also from the Russian writer Alexander Pushkin and his wife Natalia Nikolayevna Goncharova.

The duke attended a state primary school and then the private Mostyn House School. He continued his education at Ellesmere College and then earned a degree in countryside management from Newcastle University.

Hugh made headlines in 2012 when details of his 21st birthday were revealed which reportedly cost £5million.

The Duke of Westminster was asked to be George’s godfather by William in 2013 and attended his christening at St James’s Palace in London.

Hugh’s late father, who died in 2016 from a heart attack, was reportedly very close with King Charles.

After his father’s death, Hugh became the 7th Duke of Westminster and along with his wealth and new estates, he became the head of The Grosvenor Group, which means he owns several huge areas of London and land as well as over 1,500 buildings all across the world.

Hugh represented Team GB at Olympic Skeet Shooting competitions overseas and in the UK.

The former bachelor has also led a campaign for the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre, which was initiated by his father.

The foundation supports the rehabilitation of seriously wounded or injured members of the Armed Forces.

At the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Hugh also donated £12.5 million to NHS charities.
