'What the f***!' Jeremy Vine yells at bus driver in 'near miss' with double decker

Jeremy Vine has shared the moment he exclaimed “What the f***!” during a ‘near-miss’ encounter with a London bus on his morning cycle to work.

The veteran broadcaster, who often shares videos of himself cycling in London to highlight safety issues, posted footage showing him navigating Holland Park Roundabout around 6am this morning.

The traffic circle has previously been dubbed one of the “most dangerous junctions” in the capital, and Mr Vine’s video shows him appear to come close to having a bus enter the lane he is cycling in.

From his head-mounted camera Mr Vine records the several-tonne vehicle coming towards him as he repeatedly says “no” and “don’t do it”.

The video received a mixed reaction online, with one person saying the presenter was a “danger”: “Once again you’ve proved you are a danger to yourself and other road users please stop cycling and use another form of transport that way the roads will be a safer place.”

Another said: “Your fault TBF.”

Meanwhile others believed it to be the bus driver’s fault: “Why is it always busses that just think they own the road? With a vehicle that big they should be paying the most attention.”

Express.co.uk have approached Transport for London for comment.

Captioning the event on his X, formerly Twitter, account Mr Vine posted: “Don’t do it DON’T DO IT NO What the f— Today, 6am, on the shocking Holland Park Roundabout which we are told is ‘safe enough already’.”

MyLondon reports Transport for London (TfL) is currently consulting on proposals to rework parts of Holland Park roundabout, including a new protected cycle lane and dedicated traffic lights.

TfL says the roundabout, which sits on the western edge of Kensington and Chelsea, is a “high priority location for safety improvements” under Mayor Sadiq Khan ’s Safer Junction Programme.

Data shows 59 people, including 14 cyclists and pedestrians, were injured in collisions in the three years to May 2023, six of them seriously.

If implemented, the changes will connect with Cycleway 34 across Shepherd’s Bush Green to Wood Lane in neighbouring Hammersmith and Fulham, and Cycleway 39 to Kensington High Street.

Will Norman, the Walking and Cycling Commissioner, said the works would improve bus journey times “without any significant impacts on general traffic”. He said: “Holland Park Roundabout is one of the most dangerous junctions on the TfL road network, and has seen 56 collisions in the last three years.

“This scheme will make it safer for people walking and cycling and will help improve journey times for bus users without any significant impacts on general traffic, building a better, safer city for all Londoners.”
