What Alex Murdaugh said as he was handed two life sentences for murder of wife and son

South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh was convicted of murder Thursday in the shooting deaths of his wife and son in a case that chronicled the unraveling of a powerful Southern family with tales of privilege, greed and addiction. Alex Murdaugh protested his innocence as he was handed two life sentences on Friday. The 54-year-old revealed that Maggie and Paul visit him “all day and every night”.

He said: “I’m innocent. I would never hurt my wife Maggie and I would never hurt my son Paul.

“I’m going to tell you again, I respect this court but I’m innocent.

“I would never under any circumstances hurt my wife Maggie and my son Paul.”

The judge said it might have been the “monster you’ve become” after taking up to 60 opioid pills.
