Welsh Open final suspended as players taken off the table after fan falls ill

The Welsh Open final was temporarily suspended after a fan fell ill. Gary Wilson and Martin O’Donnell were taken away from the table at Venue Cymru while the spectator received urgent medical attention.

Wilson had taken the first frame and was cruising in the second when it became apparent that there was an incident inside the venue. An update from the World Snooker Tour just prior to 2pm read: “The two players have been taken off the table after a spectator has been taken ill.”

Play was halted for a little under a quarter of an hour while medics treated the individual. It was later revealed that the woman was able to walk out of the venue unaided, with the WST wishing her a full recovery.

A tweet 2:10pm read: “Play will now resume. The lady who [was taken] ill in the crowd was able to walk out of the arena safely, and will hopefully be OK. Credit to the brilliant work of security here at the venue.”
