Wedding guests cringe after priest’s ridiculous comment at the altar leaves bride blushing

Wedding guests were aghast after attending the ceremony of one young couple as the officiant, or priest, taking the proceedings revealed more about the pair than many expected.

Such was the incredulity on the part of one wedding guest, they felt the need to take to Reddit to tell the world about the cringeworthy ordeal.

The social media user explained the eyebrow-raising ordeal on a sub-Reddit called ‘wedding shaming’, by saying: “A few years ago I attended a cousins wedding. We are not particularly close, but I flew in from out of state and took the opportunity to see people I don’t get to see a lot since I moved.

“As we rarely speak, I assumed it was going to be a very large wedding, and my sisters and I were invited as we are first cousins of the groom, never met the bride. There were maybe fifty people there.”

The poster then moved on to the ceremony itself, during which time those in attendance would learn far more about the bride than they thought they would.

The social media user continued: “Great, I’m just hanging with my sisters, Dad, Grandma, chitchatting. We sit down for the ceremony and the officiant starts taking about how marriage is only valid between a man and woman, the man is now charged with protecting the woman as get guardian, other disgusting things.”

Put off by what the officiant is saying, the Redditor expressed their displeasure, writing: “I audibly voice “gross” and consider leaving, but I drove several family members, so I stick around.

At was it this point where the congregation got an insight into the couple’s relationship they weren’t expecting.

The poster writes: “Then the officiant announces that the bride has “saved” herself for the groom. This is a thirty year old college graduate, they have been together several years, I don’t believe it for a second, and I KNOW my cousin the groom hasn’t “saved” himself.

“I make it through the reception and then make a donation in their name to the LGBTQ+ community in their neighborhood. Hope they got a thank you note.”
