Weather maps show exact time whole of UK will be covered by snow and rain after Christmas

Snow, rain and heavy winds are all set to batter the UK within days of Christmas, with weather maps revealing exactly when to watch out for the adverse conditions.

Brits across the country are warned to prepare for travel disruption and fierce weather on Wednesday, December 27. Multiple yellow weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office across the span of the UK, covering huge parts of the country.

Only the farthest tips of Scotland, Cornwall and Kent are not covered by the sweeping weather event, according to the latest charts. According to weather maps by WXCharts, which uses data from Met Desk, the severe weather is set to be hitting its peak as early as 6am on the day after Boxing Day.

Snow will reach up to 2cm in parts of Scotland. The rest of the country, meanwhile, will be drenched in rain.

The northwest coast looks to be particularly wet, with close to 10cm falling in these areas. Temperatures, on the other hand, sees a substantial north/south split across the UK.

There will be lows of -3C in the coldest parts of Scotland, with sub-zero temperatures for much of the north. Meanwhile, southern UK will be enjoying comparatively balmy highs of around 9C, reaching even higher at the southwestern tip of Cornwall. These will be accompanied by fierce winds, as a jetstream of around 80mph heads in from the Atlantic.

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings all over the country for Wednesday. Firstly, there is a rain and snow warning for most of Scotland just north of Edinburgh and Glasgow from 6am to the end of the day.

The weather agency warns: “Heavy rain and snow may result in some disruption.”

It addedP: “At higher elevations (roughly above 200 metres) snow is expected, with 10-15 cm likely to accumulate, particularly on southeast-facing hills and will affect some higher transport routes. Very strong southeasterly winds will accompany the rain and snow and exacerbate any impacts.”

Meanwhile, there is another weather warning in place for heavy rain in the north west England and the south west of Scotland, between 3am and 6pm.

“Outbreaks of heavy rain will move northeastwards across northern England and southern Scotland during Wednesday,” the Met Office said. “Across the warning area 20-30 mm of rain is expected to accumulate quite widely. Over higher ground of the Pennines, Lake District and Southern Uplands, 40-60 mm is likely during this period with as much as 70-90 mm in a few locations.

“Strong winds will likely exacerbate any impacts from the rain. Snow is also likely for a short time across higher ground, although this will quickly turn to rain.”

It is a similar story for the vast majority of Wales, which has been hit with a yellow weather warning from midnight until 6pm on the day. Cornwall and the southwest also have a warning for rain from midnight to 3pm. Covers all of Cornwall and reaches Bath, stopping just before Salisbury.

Finally, there is another wind warning from 3am to 6pm for the entirety of the south coast.

The Met Office said: “A spell of strong southwesterly winds are likely during Wednesday, initially affecting Cornwall in the west of the warning area before spreading eastwards through the course of the day. Gusts are likely to reach 50-60 mph fairly widely, with a risk of 65-70 mph across some exposed headlands. Disruption or delays to transport are possible.”
