Watch dramatic moment Russian warship explodes into fireball after 'Storm Shadow strike'

Massive explosions and fierce fires can be seen in footage taken following the Ukrainian strike on a Russian warship in Crimea.

The destruction of a warship by the Ukrainian air force in the Black Sea has been confirmed by Russian military authorities.

Video footage shows a strong explosion sending a huge fireball skyward.

The aerial assault on the Crimean port city of Feodosia has been attributed to Ukraine and is believed to have been carried out using a British made Storm Shadow missile.

The commander of the Ukrainian air force, Mykola Oleshchuk, claimed that the airstrike destroyed a Russian Navy ship known as the Novocherkask landing ship.

Sergei Aksyonov, Russia’s appointed governor of Crimea, has stated that one person was killed and two others were injured in Ukraine’s airstrike.

Oleshchuk wrote on Telegram: “And the fleet in Russia is getting smaller and smaller!

“Thanks to the Air Force pilots and everyone involved for the filigree work!”

Trains leaving the port town were rerouted, and street traffic was partially blocked as a result of the airstrike, according to the Crimean administration appointed by Russia.

Russia’s annexation of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 drew widespread condemnation.

Aksyonov said: “All relevant emergency services are on site.”

He added: “Residents of several houses will be evacuated.”

Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials have denied claims that Russian forces have seized the stronghold Mariinka, near the eastern city of Donetsk.
