A ‘warrior’ baby boy has died in his mother’s arms after catching a common virus.
Hudson Oliver Roebuck, from Stockport, appeared to be a healthy baby when he was taken home by his parents.
However, soon after, he fell ill with suspected jaundice and returned to the hospital.
When he returned, his condition deteriorated, and he was rushed to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital just a few days later.
Soon after, he was placed into an induced coma where his condition worsened.
Hudson was in an induced coma for nine days. During this time he suffered three haemorrhages.
As his condition deteriorated, he developed an immune deficiency disorder leaving his body unable to fight enterovirus.
Enterovirus is a very common virus in children, but an immune deficiency disorder can leave a baby vulnerable.
Hudson died on August 4, when he was just five weeks old.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Hudson’s mum Georgia, 27, said: “It was just so painful.
“It’s a pain I will never, ever forget. It turned our lives upside down. It shouldn’t have happened.
“We had some time with him when they took the tubes out and he passed away in our arms.
“Everyone is devastated. It’s just heartbreaking.”
Georgia added: “When he passed, I even carried him down to the bereavement centre myself. It was like a nursery, and he was in a crib.
“It was just hard. I was the stronger one and now I just keep crying. We call him a warrior because he’s just amazing, all the [hospital staff] said that to us.”
Georgia and her partner Saul were looking forward to introducing Hudson to their other children, Alfie, eight, Ava-Grace, five, and Saul’s Amelia, four. Georgia said she was proud of her young son for not giving up.
She said: “You’ve got to be really proud of him because he didn’t give up. I kept saying, ‘You don’t have to keep fighting for mummy.
“If you’re ready, just go’. I’ve gone back to being a mum and I’m trying to carry on, but it’ll take time. He touched so many lives.”
Following Hudson’s death a fundraiser has been set up to help cover the cost of his funeral. So far, the page has raised more than £4,000.
A statement on the page read: “We would like to help cover funeral expenses and give him the send-off he deserves for his brave parents, Saul and Georgia.
“They have had to quit working to spend all their time in Ronald McDonald house to be by their son’s side.
“They’ve had to leave other children with family, leave their jobs, their home and we want to try and help reduce some costs for them.
“Baby Hudson sadly never got to be in this world as he was too special but he sure will go out of this world like the king he is.”
