Video shows panicked German officials fleeing plane amid missile threat in Israel

A terrifying video shows the moment German officials dashed off a plane and laid on the ground after an air raid warning at a Tel Aviv airport.

The plane was about to take off when the alarm sounded at Ben Gurion Airport, causing panic among those on the aircraft.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was among those on the plane but was taken off and escorted to a car.

The German leader was taken to an airport building where there are shelters.

Bild reports that Mr Scholz was able to see two explosions “with his own eyes.”

The German newspaper reports that the explosions came as a result of Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system taking out Hamas rockets.

Other officials who were on the plane could be seen lying on the floor on the tarmac as the alarm sounded.

The German officials were eventually able to board the plane again.

Chancellor Scholz has said he wants to help Egypt in its attempt to calm tensions in the region in a meeting with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo.

He said: “Together with Egypt, we want to work to alleviate the terrible consequences of the war.”

He has also expressed sadness after the death of over 500 Palestinians after a bombing at a hospital in Gaza. Israel has denied carrying out the attack while Hamas claim the country did.

Mr Scholz added: “I am horrified by the images of the explosion in a hospital in Gaza. Innocent civilians were injured and killed.”

Jonathan Conricus, a spokesman for the IDF, told CNN that Israel did not carry out the attack.

President Joe Biden added: “I am outraged and deeply saddened by the explosion at the Al Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza, and the terrible loss of life that resulted.”

“Immediately upon hearing this news, I spoke with King Abdullah II of Jordan, and Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel and have directed my national security team to continue gathering information about what exactly happened.

“The United States stands unequivocally for the protection of civilian life during conflict and we mourn the patients, medical staff and other innocents killed or wounded in this tragedy.”

Hamas terrorists killed 1,300 Israeli civilians and took 199 hostages during an invasion on October 7.

Israel has bombed Gaza in response, killing at least 2,800 people.
