Vet issues urgent warning to dog owners over room pets should never enter

A leading vet has issued urgent advice to dog owners over the room their pets should never be allowed to enter.

Rachel Barrack believes all pooches should avoid the bathroom and going anywhere near the toilet due to the risks posed by contaminated water.

The veterinarian adds that large dogs in particular should be kept away, no matter how curious and keen they are to explore.

She told Insider: “Toilet bowls do not contain clean water that is appropriate for your dog or cat to consume.

“Keep the lid down so your large-breed dog cannot access the bowl.”

Rachel went on to explain that some chemicals used to clean bathrooms are so strong they could prove toxic to your canine, and possibly even deadly.

Therefore cleaning with non-harmful, softer chemicals is recommended, not just in the bathroom, but all around the home.

She also warned that some everyday bathroom items could also pose a threat, advising people to store toiletries and cleaning products as far out of reach as possible.

Ivan Ivanov from End of Tenancy Cleaning explained: “Although many popular cleaning products can give us the results we want, they are not so kind to pets, potentially putting them at risk of serious health problems.

“If they are fragrance-free, they are safer for your pet,” he added.

According to End of Tenancy Cleaning data, several common products associated with other rooms within the home pose a significant health risk to pets.

These include oven cleaners, dishwasher tablets and laundry products – all of which can cause animals to become gravely ill.
