The mayor of Venice has said at least 20 people have died after a coach came off the road near the city.
A further 40 people are believed to have been injured.
The coach careered off a road in the district of Mestre, according to Italian media reports, and landed close to a railway line
The cause of the accident is not yet known.
Mayor Luigi Brugnaro wrote on social media: “I immediately ordered the city to go into mourning, in memory of the many victims who were in the crashed bus.”
