The US has deployed warplanes armed with ‘bunker busting’ bombs as tensions with Iran ramp up.
Tehran seized a US-bound oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday, sparking a furious reaction from Washington.
The US Air Force has now confirmed that 250-pound bombs loaded on A-10 Warthogs have been sent into the region in a chilling message to the Islamic Republic.
The Air Force said the new weapons will increase personnel’s ability to destroy Iranian ammunition bunkers.
Air Force Lt. Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, who oversees military operations in the skies above Syria, told The Wall Street Journal: “The A-10s are highly effective at some of the things we need to do.”
