The FIA have rejected Haas’ petition for right of review concerning the United States Grand Prix result. Team principal Guenther Steiner believes that there is ‘clear evidence’ which would have landed Alex Albon with a time penalty and promoted Nico Hulkenberg into the points.
Stewards postponed a hearing, which was originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday, so that they could consider Haas’ submission of evidence. Having done so, part of the FIA’s statement released on Thursday reads: “There is no significant and relevant new element that was unavailable to Haas at the time of the [original] decision.”
Steiner and co were pursuing the case relating to Albon repeatedly violating track limits at Circuit of the Americas. The Williams star finished ninth, but with Haas’ Hulkenberg only three seconds behind in 11th, a five-second time penalty would have bumped him up into the points at Albon’s expense.
However, for the case to be heard by the FIA, Haas had to convince F1’s governing body that there was new information unavailable at the time Albon was initially let off the hook – which the team have ultimately failed to do.
