Two US army helicopters have crashed in Alaska while returning from a training flight, military officials said today (Friday, April 28).
The fate of the two-man crews of the two Apaches was unknown last night as emergency services launched an operation at the scene, near Healy, Alaska.
John Pennell, a spokesman for the US Army Alaska, said he did not have any information he could share about the condition of those involved.
It was the second accident involving military helicopters in the state this year.
First responders were on scene at the crash site, a statement from the US Army Alaska said.
The AH-64 Apache helicopters were from Fort Wainwright, near Fairbanks.
Officials said the incident was being investigated and they would give more details when available.
In February, two soldiers were injured when an Apache rolled after taking off from Talkeetna. The aircraft was one of four travelling to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage from Fort Wainwright.
