The strained relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry is one of the world’s most well known family rifts.
But it wasn’t always that way – as a cute unearthed clip of the brothers and their father, now King Charles, reveals.
The trio sat for an interview with TV presenters Ant and Dec in 2006 to mark the 30th anniversary of The Prince’s Trust.
Prince William, now 41, was 26 years old at the time and Prince Harry, 39, was just 22.
They chatted to the Geordie TV presenters about everything from their favourite music to fighting over the TV remote.
The lovely footage was filmed at the pair’s childhood home of Highgrove to celebrate the organisation started by King Charles to help 11 to 30-year-olds build confidence, start careers and help them achieve their full potential.
Declan Donnelly asked: “How important are William and Harry in keeping you in touch with what’s relevant today?”
King Charles answered: “I’m sure they think they’re very important. Yeah I do. They are very good at keeping me in touch with what’s going on a bit. Particularly on the music front and things like that. I can’t keep up with all the different new bands and everything else that bobs up on the scene.”
Prince William interjects to reference Ant and Dec’s short-lived music careers with their band PJ and Duncan before ribbing his brother’s musical taste.
He says: “I’d say his [taste in music] is pretty shocking.”
They then go on to talk about the Spice Girls – whom King Charles says are “great fun” – TV show The X Factor and their different senses of humour.
William said: “We like the same sort of things although there’s usually an argument over the remote control at home about who watches what and that usually goes on a while.”
A quieter Harry then chips in saying: “Friends is always a safe bet.”
Fast forward to today and the relationship between the brothers pair is very different.
It’s not been an easy start to 2024 for the Royal Family with Princess Kate needing an abdominal surgery and King Charles announcing that he has cancer.
The King’s health struggles saw Prince Harry hotfooting to the UK from his California home where he lives with his wife Meghan Markle and their children Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two.
But Prince William has quashed any prospect of a royal reconciliation with his brother Prince Harry according to sources.
They pair had fallen out after Prince Harry and wife Meghan made a series of shocking revelations about the royals in their sensational interview with Oprah Winfrey, their Netflix documentary and in Harry’s memoir Spare.
