Underrated British city Londoners are abandoning the capital for where houses cost £230k

An underrated British city has become one of the top choices for Londoners who are desperate to leave the capital because of sky-high house prices, it has been reported.

Several people living in London are looking to buy homes in cities such as Leicester, Glasgow, Sheffield, and Bradford, reports MailOnline.

Leicester is known for its diverse industries, including professional services, finance, advanced manufacturing, engineering, life sciences, space technology, and digital technology.

According to a significant national industry report, Leicester has been recognised as the leading city in the East Midlands for both living and working.

The average house price for the area is still below the national average at £232,324, but more expensive than nearby Birmingham at £228,877 and Nottingham at £192,298.

Leicester’s industrial growth happened during the 20th century, mainly due to the success of its hosiery and footwear industries.

Even though manufacturing has declined in the UK in recent years, Leicester has seen the rise of many modern industries beyond its traditional textile sector.

Leicester is situated on the River Soar and lies at the edge of the National Forest. It is centrally located within the UK, making it easily accessible from major cities such as Birmingham, Nottingham, and London.

It is also next to Rutland, the smallest county in the UK and one of the prettiest and Rutland Water, a nature reserve, perfect for a day out in the countryside.

The city is home to two leading universities, the University of Leicester and De Montfort University.

These institutions contribute to the city’s vibrant academic and research community and attract students from around the world.

It is well-connected by road, rail, and air. The city’s railway station provides frequent train services to destinations across the UK, including direct services to London St Pancras International.

The nearby East Midlands Airport offers flights to domestic and international destinations.
