Ukraine ‘blows up Russian fighter jet 1,000 miles behind enemy lines’ in big blow to Putin

A Ukrainian saboteur has blown up a Russian fighter jet more than 1,000 miles behind enemy lines, according to a video released by Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR).

The HUR said the video was filmed on Wednesday night by a Ukrainian operative at the Shagol airfield in Chelyabinsk, east of the Ural Mountains.

In the video, the saboteur can be seen making a devil horns gesture for the camera as the Su-34 Russian fighter jet burns in the background.

The aircraft belonged to the Russian air force’s 21st Mixed Aviation Division, according to the HUR.

Chelyabinsk is about 1,000 miles east of the most eastern point of the current front line.

This comes as Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday that Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky’s “regime” is “not inclined to make peace.”

Lavrov said: “We have to state that the regime of Zelensky is not inclined to make peace.

“Its representatives think in terms of war and resort to highly aggressive rhetoric. There is no talk of ending hostilities.”

Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba said this week that there is no “plan B” for Ukraine, adding that Kyiv is confident it will win the war against Russia.

The largest exchange of prisoners of war since the start of Russia’s war on Ukraine took place on Wednesday, as a result of mediation from the United Arab Emirates.

Russia said it received 248 prisoners of war from Ukraine, while Ukraine got 230 of its military personnel and civilians back.

Prisoner exchanges had previously stalled at the end of last summer, and the latest exchange has prompted hopes that swaps will now continue.

Commenting on the exchange, Zelensky said “our people are home.”

Zelensky said on Telegram on Wednesday: “More than 200 of our soldiers and civilians were returned from Russian captivity. Soldiers, sergeants, officers. Soldiers of the Armed Forces, National Guard, Navy, border guards.”

Also on Wednesday, Russian said it shot down 12 missiles fired at one of its southern regions bordering Ukraine, as Kyiv’s forces seek to attack Russian President Vladimir Putin’s argument that life is going on as normal despite the fighting.
