UK weather: Scots airlifted to safety after dramatic landslides destroy roads

A Scots mum and daughter say they’re lucky to be alive after their car was washed off a 30ft cliff by a landslide.

Kiera Smith and her mum Fiona were travelling on the A83 in Argyll and Bute on Saturday morning when their vehicle was suddenly flooded by water, reports the Daily Record.

A passing police officer tried to help but screamed at the pair to “run” just seconds before muddy debris hurtled toward them.

Their Vauxhall Zafira was pushed over the cliff edge by the force and down into a ravine.

Meanwhile the two women ran for safety.

Kiera, 19, from Campbeltown, said: “After the car was washed away, we were just numb and in shock.”
