UK weather: Heavy rain to hit much of Britain in mid-week 'blip' before warm Easter

Forecasters have warned that many residents across the UK will face adverse weather conditions today as outbreaks of rain shift eastwords today and tomorrow. However, the downpours are expected to be short lived as dryer and brighter weather is predicted on Friday and all throughout Easter weekend. However, despite sunnier weather on the horizon, the Met Office has warned temperatures will continue to plummet overnight and many areas run the risk of frost.

Senior Netweather forecaster Nick Finnis said as temperatures plummeted overnight this morning frost can be expected.

However, it is likely “confined to southeastern areas”.

He wrote: “Following an exceptionally wet March, especially for England and Wales where over twice the average rainfall fell for some parts, this week and through the Easter Weekend promises a lot of dry weather for most.

“High pressure will be in charge bringing mostly fine and dry weather with plenty of sunshine away from the far north and far west today and tomorrow, with the high positioned over Scandinavia there will be a northeasterly breeze keeping eastern coastal areas on the chilly side.”

However, the forecaster went on to warn of a mid-week “blip”, with showers expected today and tomorrow.

Mr Finnis said: “There will be a mid-week blip in the generally settled pattern, with outbreaks of rain erratically moving eastwards on Wednesday and Thursday, before drier more settled conditions resume on Friday as high pressure rebuilds close to the northeast and dry and settled conditions persist through much of the Easter Weekend, the risk of overnight frost returning too from Friday night.

“Though cloud and rain may return from the Atlantic across the west on Easter Monday.”

Weather maps reveal that around midday today large areas will be experiencing the majority of the rainy weather.

However, by Thursday afternoon the sun may make an appearance in some areas before the rain makes way for more settled weather.

Friday is set to be bright and sunny for most, with temperatures expected to peak at 13C in London areas.

Meanwhile, northern areas could see 9 to 11C and Wales will be around 10 to 11C as the sun shines down.

Today, however, is not expected to be warmer than 11C and the Midlands could be as cold as 4C, weather maps have revealed.
