Forecasters believe the United Kingdom could be about to experience the hottest day of the year so far.
It comes as they expect the mercury to rise to 25C in places on Tuesday, May 30. It would make it 1C hotter than it was on Sunday, which currently holds the record as the warmest day of 2023.
The temperature has risen so high this week that parts of the UK have already been declared hotter than Spain. And it looks as though the hot weather is about to show no sign of easing.
As the Met Office believes 25C heat is expected in “one of two spots … most likely across West Scotland” on Tuesday.
Met Office meteorologist Dan Stroud said: “But after that we’re expecting temperatures just to subside just a little as we move forward towards the middle and end of the week.”

Mr Stroud said temperatures will remain “generally above average”. However, he said the current warm spell does not meet “heatwave criteria”.
He said: “We’ve got high pressure sending across at the moment, which is bringing dry and settled weather and some late spring, early summer sunshine.
“We’re expecting similar conditions for the rest of the week and into next weekend and probably beyond. So an extended spell of dry and settled weather.”
Mr Stroud said May has been “very dry” and with “just slightly more than half the normal amount of rainfall we would actually expect”.
The Met Office week-long forecast says the UK will be generally cloudy however on Tuesday. This will stretch across eastern parts of England.
Otherwise it looks as though the day will be generally fine and filled with sunshine. It will be particularly warm in the west, with the odd cooler patch where the cloud persists.
Heading further into the week it looks as though there will be plenty of sun, again with the west benefitting most. However, there will be a cold breeze from the North Sea for those in the eastern region.
