UK travel chaos LIVE: M62 shut, St Pancras mobbed as Brits in last dash home for Christmas

The busiest travel day of the year is underway – and the traffic is already mounting as thousands of Brits head home for Christmas. By 5am this morning (Friday, December 22), there were already long delays at the Port of Dover, as a result of to heavy traffic caused by Thursday’s industrial action by Eurotunnel staff in France.

Some people reported being stuck in queues in Dover for more than five hours overnight – while St Pancras has been pictured packed with travellers held up by the industrial action.

Meanwhile, a stretch of the M62 remains shut this morning after a serious crash left a 19-year-old dead last night. The motorway was first closed off between junction 21 for Milnrow and junction 22 for Denshaw at around 11pm last night, and is expected to remain closed for several hours this morning.
