UK storm warning: Met Office issues two-day alert for brutal system to smash UK in hours

The Met Office has issued urgent yellow weather warnings for strong winds set to smash into Britain in the coming hours.

A huge swathe of southern England from Cornwall to London falls under the warning, as well as the entire Welsh western and southern coast. For Northern Ireland a yellow rain warning has also been issued.

The alert starts from 11am tomorrow running until 3am the next day.

In a statement the weather agency said: “A spell of strong and gusty winds will move east across England and Wales, bringing some disruption to travel and services.”

It added the winds could cause delays to “rail, air and ferry transport” as well as sparking dangerous high waves on the coast and possible power cuts.

The wind warning comes just days after Storm Gerrit wreaked havoc across the country, even causing a mini tornado in Greater Manchester.
