UK storm warning: Exactly when ex-Hurricane Nigel will hit UK with tropical vortex

The UK will be hit by the remnants of a hurricane in a powerful storm ‘vortex’ – bringing yet more heavy rain.

We be seeing off Hurricane Lee which prompted flood warnings across northern England and Wales yesterday and today, but another is just around the corner.

But forecasters have warned that the remnants of Hurricane Nigel will sweep across the UK on over the weekend to bring more brutal weather.

The Met Office said: “On Sunday, we will start to see the influence of ex-tropical Hurricane Nigel, which will be offshore in the mid-Atlantic.

“These systems have a long reach.

“It will increase rainfall rates and also winds to bring unsettled weather to the UK.”

Steve Willington is a Chief Forecaster with the Met Office talked about the ferocious weather we’ve seen over the last few days – and also warned there’s more to come.

He said: “The weekend’s severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, and their associated impacts, have marked a transition between the heat of last week and the more Atlantic-dominated weather in the forecast for the coming week.”

Speaking about the incoming weather systems, expert Jim Dale said the UK would be hit by not just one – but three ex-hurricanes going into next week.

He said: “The ashes of ex-hurricanes Lee & Margot impacting the UK next couple of days.

“Afterburners of newly formed Hurricane Nigel, scuffing past northwest Scotland this weekend.

“Western areas of the UK especially northwest will have an overload of rain.”

However, maps show much of UK will feel the brutal impact of Nigel as it heads north with both Sunday and Monday affected.
